Apollo 8 astronaut and 'Earthrise' photographer Bill Anders dies at 90
Anders, who flew on the first manned space mission to orbit the Moon, passed away in a plane crash.

William Alison "Bill" Anders, an American United States Air Force (USAF) major general, electrical engineer, and nuclear engineer who flew on the Apollo 8 mission, has died in a plane crash at the age of 90.
Anders was born on October 17, 1933, in Hong Kong. He graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 1955 and served as a pilot in the USAF. In 1963, he was selected as an astronaut by NASA.
Anders flew on the Apollo 8 mission in 1968, which was the first manned space mission to orbit the Moon. During the mission, Anders captured one of the most famous images ever recorded in space, the "Earthrise" photograph.
After retiring from NASA in 1973, Anders worked as a corporate executive and a consultant. He also served on the board of directors of several companies, including Lockheed Martin and General Dynamics.
